He has extensive experience of research in Artificial Intelligence, including ways of interacting with data and information. He is an author of over 50 research publications, including over 20 refereed conference and journal papers.
One of the key developers of "Festival", a speech synthesis system that is now widely used throughout the world. He has also looked at applying computer planning techniques to inter-personal interaction, and on extensible data display and manipulation systems.
