Each case on PATSy typically consists of a medical history, video clip(s) and assessment data. A wide range of test data is available for each patient. For example, each case on PATSy-Speech and Language contains an average of 27 tests. This represents rich `research grade' data. Adding a new case, therefore, can involve accurately providing dozens --- even hundreds --- of specific inter-related data and meta-data items.
Rather than commit their research time to developing an interface from scratch, the PATSy project asked II to develop increased functionality for the PATSy system.
II had built a number of systems that involved updating and managing databases through interfaces that could be used with little or no training.
II could therefore offer relevant experience and software libraries to allow them tackle the project more effectively than PATSy's own researchers.
