The first step in adding the system to their live site was for GSPC to amend their database to store property locations.
The next step was to add locations to all their existing properties, which they did by sending II a block of postcodes, which were returned complete with location data.
The next stage was for GSPC to amend their procedure for adding a property, so that their locations could be found and stored as part of the process. This invovled using service provided by Interactive Information and XYZ Digital Map Company to look up each postcode across the web as the property is being added.
Once the location has been determined (using data licensed from the Post Office), GSPC Staff are then able to fine-tune it by re-positioning a marker on a map.
Once the functionality for the search interface was agreed, II supplied GSPC with a package of web pages and mapping to install on their servers. This then allowed GSPC to test the system in its final production environment. This was, however, straightforward, because the system involves no server-side software, and places almost no load on the servers.
Finally, GSPC linked the map-based search interface into their web site, making it available to the public.
