What We Did

  • Used mock up to crystalise requirements
  • Programmed the search system
  • Added one-click "export" master database
  • Fine-tuned "feel" of system
  • Added data capture and import/merge

Notes

The first thing we did was to produce a "mock up" of the system. This was then used to focus discussion of how it should appear, and precisely what it would allow users to do.

When the IEE were happy with the functionality of the system, we wrote the software for importing data from Access and indexing it, and fo searching it via the web.

Once the search system was working with real data, we and the IEE were able to review the "feel" of the system, and fine-tune its behaviour. At the same time we took a copy of the Access system and added code to allow "one click" export of all the data the web system needed.

Finally, we added the password-protected forms to allow event organisers to add information to a "shadow" database, from where IEE staff could retrieve it and control its addition to the master database.
